Summary: Depends on your Noise Issue - No Good for Cubicles
Comment: I bought one to help deal with the folks at work. I sit in a cubicle all day and was about to loose it listening to all the loud, click-clack keyboards, mouse clicking and scrolling, phone conversations, bad eating manners and etc. It was suggested that I get a white noise machine. Well.....it didn't help. You can still hear everything that you wish you didn't have to listen to all day. It sounds like a loud fan running and I agree with the woman that said that the design/color is just awful. I had to hide the machine on my desk to prevent the starring as people walked by.

Summary: Soothing product!
Comment: I bought this as a gift for my father. He absolutely loves it! The two sound levels are great. I was worried it wouldn't be loud enough but it is the perfect level. The noise from the Sound Screen is very much like the sound of the table top fan he'd been using for 10 years so he couldn't be happier. Plus it's much less bulky and he can pack it in a suitcase. I'm planning on buying some for my children's rooms. I would definitely recommend this product!

Summary: Not what I had hoped for
Comment: I purchased this item hoping it was similar in sound to a vaccum or hair dryer to help my 1 month old daughter sleep. Instead it sounded like the soft hum of a fan. Not near loud enough or high enough in pitch to make a difference in her abiity to sleep. The machine did work when I plugged it in. It just wasn't what I was looking for.

Comment: I have been using the Marpac sound conditioner for a couple of weeks now, and it certainly beats my old air purifier (which rattled and growled a bit, and for which now-hard-to-find filters cost a third the price of the machine).

Besides the quality of the item itself, Marpac provided excellent documentation, explaining the possibility of the need for a personal breaking-in of sorts, while one habituates to the machine. VERY thoughtful, and probably based on research/user comments. I got used to it quite rapidly.

I like it! I live in an apartment building, where even comparatively light ambient noise can startle someone at the edge of sleep. It works for me, and I hope it will for you, too.
