Customer Reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Vivarin works! I'm a fan. Comment: PROS: Works. Its quick and easy. When I start feeling drowsy at work or while driving I use this product and within minutes I'm wide awake. Also helps with staying focused.
CONS: I never thought anxiety could be caused by taking a pill, but it did for me. Turns out it was the dosage. I bought a pill splitter and cut each pill in half. Now I take the half pills. Still works perfectly, and the anxiety doesn't happen.
OVERALL: I love this product. It actually works as advertized. Its similar to 2 cups of coffee. 1 cup of coffee if you cut pills in half. Read the warnings on the package before using. I imagine it has different side effects on different people. Customer Rating: Summary: Vivarin is a More Expensive Brand-Name Caffeine Product Comment: "Vivarin" has 200 mg of caffeine in it as its active ingredient. This is equilivant to about 2 strong cups of coffee. I use this product occasionally when I absolutely have to stay awake, such as while driving at night.
Caffeine is a drug, and it has an energizing effect on the central nervous system, (it is a stimulant). A typical cup of coffee has about 100 mg of caffeine. Caffeine is used in several diffeerent supplements, those being weight loss products and "stay alert" products, such as "Stay Awake", No-Doz", and "Vivarin".
In doses of 100-200 mg, caffeine can increase alertness, relieve drowsiness and improve thinking. The average person in the US consumes about 200 mg of caffeine per day through coffee drinking.
Like any "drug", caffeine is not without its adverse effects. At doses of 250-700 mg/day, caffeine can cause anxiety, insomnia, nervousness, hypertension, and insomnia. Over 1000 mg/d can cause tachycardia, palpitations, insomnia, tinnitus, and cognitive difficulties. More than 10 grams of caffeine is lethal.
Take just one tablet as directed and this product is relatively safe. Keep it stored away from children.
Since caffeine is caffeine, I prefer the off-brand products to the name-brand products, as the off-brnad generics are much cheaper.
