Editorial Review:
The unnamed hero of Beeswax had his own issues to deal with, and his own set of flying critters to guide him along, in their weird, busy way. If you have read the first two stories in this series, you may begin to detect a trend as you follow our friend through his first real love affair. However, trends are made to be broken, much, as we are constantly reminded, like sports records, or indeed records of any kind. People even make up tasks so as to be the first recognized record holder of same. I, for one, have no ambition to be the record holder for most butterflies eaten at a sitting but I would not bet against some lamebrain trying it, which would be a double shame because butterflies deserve better. Bees, on the other hand…..
Customer Reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Reader Bee-Ware! Comment: Just when you think you have this story figured out, the author throws in that surprising twist at the end. And then you say: "Of course", knowing full well that nothing is ever as it seems in these "flights of reason" tales.
First of all, as Mr. Waugh begins to describe the "relationship" between the characters---the man who shuns relationships and is reticent to be in anything resembling the relationship his parents had---and then you see this woman, whom he met "at work". Everything about the relationship, from start to finish, shows her in the control tower, seemingly orchestrating everything.
But lest you think this is simply another tale of a controlling woman, hold onto your hats.
The ending, as promised, will grab you and clutch your throat until you gasp.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Whole Lotta Flyin' Goin' On Comment: This one is tough to review fully. Why? If you've read the earlier reviews you are aware I am impressed with a lightning fast change of beat at the very end, leaving the reader breathless. Well Tony Waugh does it again. This time I was laying for him. This time was going to be different...I was ready for the change of beat.
I think the crafty old Son o' the Emerald Isle was laying for me!!! Tony Waugh changed the beat all right, but in so doing, he changes something else too...something very VERY basic...and that's what I can't even hint at without spoiling the surprise.
Once again the descriptions were outstanding... once again I was drawn into the story, the pleasant echoes of Angie's soft, sonorous voice playing somewhere at the back of my mind. But it wasn't Angie...not by a long shot. What was making the deceptive sound was something so frightening...so horrible... that I just cannot tell you. [sorry]
Three read...three more beckon. Tony is keeping to the theme suggested by the very clever title that had me jealous before I'd read even the first story. In each so far, reason takes flight...away from the protagonist. Away...I'm starting to suspect from the reviewer!
