The Speakerphone features three one-touch memory buttons and a 9-number speed dial. The phone is caller ID and call waiting capable with a 50 name/number caller ID history, and features a visual message waiting and new call indicator. A large, LCD display with adjustable contrast controls allows for easy visibility regardless of the lighting.

A built-in answering system features all-digital operation for utmost reliability and speed. The AT&T 1856 has memory for 19 minutes of digital recording time, and there is a call screening function that lets you intercept only the calls you want. Message Guard technology prevents you from losing any information in the case of a power failure. The AT&T 1856 is desk- and wall-mountable.

Summary: Great Phone-Help for Handset Falling
Comment: I recently purchased the 1856 and experienced the same problem the reviewer did as listed in the comment, "warning: when you mount it on the wall, the handset slides off".
Solution: the small plastic piece (less than 1"x1") located just under the handset ear piece slips out. When you slip it out, there is a small hook on one end. Turn the plastic piece around, insert it back into the phone base, and your handset will stay securely in place, even mounted on the wall.
The phone works great!

Summary: pretty good spreaker phone
Comment: The speaker works great so does the embedded mic. It's really convenient to have those three direct dial keys on the left side of the key pad. Now all my family members can call mine cell without remember them at all. The only thing I think it needs to improve is the display brightness. I can't see it well if the surrounding light is not bright enough, especially during the night.

Comment: This was just what I wanted. Radio Shack had something similiar, for $135.00. Wal-Mart had something similiar, but none in the store and none on line. Amazon had just what I wanted for under $30.00. Pays to shop at Amazon.

Comment: This phone might be great, I haven't actually tried it yet. But a warning: when you mount it on the wall, the handset slides off. Don't buy it if that's where you're planning on installing it.

Comment: This unit fully lives up to its description. It is easy to install and set up. It has great clarity of sound. Even I can understand it with my 87 year old defective ears. The volume control has great latitude. I do not hesitate to recommend it for its affordable price and seemingly excellent quality and ease of use.
