Editorial Review:
"The future of music, today" - Rolling Stone 10 Artists To Watch. "Singing in a haunting, sensual wail...she adds a layer of softness to an unusual mix of synthesizers, dance hall rhythms, and percolating new wave" - NY Times. "Future-pop princess...next big thing" - Spin. "Santi White is Santogold...the collaborators and players may change, the sounds may shift, but at the center is one woman's indelible vision" - The Fader. SXSW / Coachella shows, 2007 tours with Bjork, M.I.A., songs featured in Entourage, Grey's Anatomy, Grand Theft Auto.
Don't call Santi White an R&B artist: on her debut album Santogold, this former music biz A&R and pop songwriter for hire is challenging race stereotypes and playing fast and loose with genre, mashing up dub, punk, and electronics to make an energetic, anger-fuelled music that blurs the lines between the dancefloor and the moshpit. Comparisons to MIA hold some water, especially on the bullish "Creator" (it's worth noting that Santogold features production turns from sometime MIA collaborators Diplo and Switch). For the most part, though, Santogold's debut follows a quite different path. "L.E.S Artists" is stirring new-wave pop that builds to grand, tearful choruses reminiscent of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, while "You'll Find a Way" and "Say Aha" are propulsive ska-pop numbers that hark back to its creator's previous band, Bad Brains-influenced punks Stiffed. But it's not just skilful genre-skipping to recommend this record, though: White is the rare vocalist that can sound empowered and vulnerable within the space of the same song, and it's her force of character that places Santogold ahead of the pack. --Louis Pattison

Summary: Not just an excellent debut album. Santogold's debut album!
Comment: When I first listened Santogold, I thought it was a new album by the Yeah yeah Yeah's (as the radio station DJ's), L.E.S. Artistes caught my attention as a great song, and with the feature this guys of 94.7 FM here in Portland called "Track Seven" they played several tracks from this album. That was enough to convince me it was a good album.
What I got to listen was far from what I expected, not only a great album, but something unique I never heard before. There is no song alike, no song I dislike and no song that does not fit perfectly in here.
We have the opening "L.E.S. Artistes" with very direct lyrics, an amazing video and a catchy tune in the chorus.
The next track "You'll Find a Way", something more moving with influences of both alternative and R&B, a nice tune, catchy and great, the same applies for the remix at the end of the album, that does not sounds like the original version.
"Shove it" sounds more R&B to me, with a tune that will make you move at the rythm of the song.
"Say Aha" makes you continue to dance with a more moving tune, this song has again influences of different kinds, I suggest a new "Santogold" category of music should be created for these songs.
"Creator" is what I like to call TLC meets Beck. A tune from both alternative and R&B, a weird song that at the end, is one of the best of the album. The voice loops are stunning and funny to listen in here.
"My Superman" slows downs a little with something more to listen rather to dance. The song catch your attention with a very intense vocals and tunes that are extremely catchy.
"Light out" is a song I can't get out of my head. Pure alternative in this song, with a chorus that is catchy than any other song and a video that is simple, yet funny. This song has become my mood-lifting song replacing Goldfrapp's Satin Chic in that position.
"Starstruck" is probably the song I kind of misunderstood at the beginning, after several times listening to it I finally liked, the intense bass in this song make this slow song one of those you wanna put the bass in your car stereo all the way up. As same as My Superman, a song you'll enjoy listening.
"Unstoppable" is catchy from beginning to end. A funny chorus with those "e,e,e,eh!" that has caught the attention of all the people who I have put to listen to this song. Another of my favorites.
"I'm a Lady" is not slow or fast. Just a beautiful song that a fan of alternative music will enjoy listening to, I love the drums on this songs.
"Anne" or the "howling" song. A nice way to almost close the album, a song extremely unique and very different from the album's concept, a tune that starts slow and then accelerates makes this song excellent. I call it the howling song because the auuuuu's that she uses during the song.
So far, this is one of the best albums of my life, not only this year. A unique album that surprised me when I thought that good music was gone. A must have in your collection, like the music you like, any kind, you will love Santogold!

Summary: A debut that strikes gold.
Comment: You know how you hear types who complain that music today is never at all inventive and anything about its lack of diversity? Well, I may suggest these people check out Santogold, one of the more fresh artists around. As many have heard comparisons to M.I.A. I actually think I like this album way more than her works (although I don't mind 'em). The songs here largely use actual bass and drums, as well as other instruments for the songs.

Yes, some of these songs are heard on commercials, but you know something? They're all great songs. The album can offer something if you're feeling more reggae ("Shove It"), want something with real energy ("You'll Find a Way"; "Say Aha"), want some pretty pop songs ("Lights Out"; "I'm a Lady"), or other interesting bits (the electro synth-bass on "Starstruck"). There is one track that does kind of M.I.A.-ish, "Creator" with its DJ showing and insane track. Ever since I have bought this album it has not left my CD player really, and it's one of the more likeable albums of the year, if not maybe even the best of the year.

It's an album that's full of diversity and creativity, nothing worth missing out. This album makes me really intrigued for what might be next, because this already shows an artist onto something.

Summary: Santogold - Santogold
Comment: It is refreshing to listen to new music which has its own distinct sound and vibe to it, Santogold (A.K.A. Santi White) delivers the goods on her self titled debut album. My favourite track on this release is the third single "Lights Out" a laidback feel good track where Santogold shines delivering an anthem. The first track and lead single "L.E.S. Artistes" is another outstanding contribution, Santogold sings about being an innovator in a game full of pretenders. Santogold keeps this album fresh, with no two track's sounding the same, creative music, another highlight track for me is "I'm A Lady" feat. Trouble Andrew. Original and experimental release worth checking out.

Summary: Go ahead, you know you want it!
Comment: This is a really good album from start to finish. Santi (Santogold) has a very dynamic range and style to her voice, allowing her to do a variety of songs. The musical tracks behind her are a mix of electronica and live rock music...all done very well. The music and singing work together effortlessly...Santi sings as though she was lead singing for a band and not just singing on a track in the studio. After 3 full listens, I have yet to skip a track because the track was weak.

And dont compare Santi to MIA...one sings the other raps. As far as who's the overall better artist...hands down Santi. Ive heard way better rappers in my day than MIA..."experimental" or not. Santi's voice is unique, talented, and genuine.
