Editorial Review:
For Celtic Thunder, Sharon Browne has teamed up with Grammy-nominated Irish songwriting and composing veteran Phil Coulter to produce a show that includes an eclectic mix of songs ranging from the traditional "Mountains of Mourne" and "Come By the Hills" to international hits such as "Brothers in Arms" and "Desperado," as well as original compositions by Coulter, who has written hits for Elvis Presley ("My Boy") and the Bay City Rollers, and performed with Van Morrison, Tom Jones, and the Rolling Stones. The ensemble numbers in Celtic Thunder reflect the power of the vocalists, who range in age from 14 to 40, and feature songs that celebrate a common Celtic heritage.

Summary: Celtic Thunder cannot be beat!
Comment: I first heard Celtic Thunder accidentally by clicking through television stations and landing on a PBS program. I was going to quickly click out of it, but became mesmerized immediately. When the show was over, I went directly to the Internet and ordered a DVD and an audio of the show. Then I ordered two more for my children! This is the best I've heard in a while!Celtic Thunder: The Show

Summary: Celtic Thunder CD
Comment: I absolutely love this cd, and play it all the time. As soon as the drums start for 'Heartland', I'm starting to move in time with it! All the songs are great, and having seen a number of video clips on Youtube, I will be buying the DVD as soon as its available for Region 4! I was intrigued to see that some people were upset by the inclusion of some religious words in the song (apparently the words in gaelic), but when I saw the lyrics, I could see that it was a sailor's hymn to God, asking Him to keep them safe, and then giving thanks when they were safely home, so to me, it makes sense. Anyway, the one song I would have preferred not to listen to, is 'Puppy Love'. I have never really like the song, perhaps because there have been so many bad versions of it, but giving credit where it is due, Damien McGinty does a very good job of it, perhaps because he is a teenager himself, albeit with a very mature voice. I think Celtic Thunder work so well as a group, because all five are accomplished singers/musicians in their own right, and that experience shows up very clearly in the songs. I thoroughly recommend this cd to anyone who likes celtic music.

Summary: Break out the green beer and frosted Lucky Charms
Comment: I was thrilled when I first heard from a friend that a new Celtic Thunder CD had been released. I had been a fan since the early 1990s of the band whose albums such as "The Light of Other Days" were filled with songs of longing, rebellion, optimism and humor -- original and authentic songs embodying the timeless themes of humanity in general and humanity from the Irish and Irish American perspectives in particular. What a disappointment to find that the new "Celtic Thunder" album was a totally different act, playing off the Celtic Thunder name, and doling out the old sappy stereotyped standards mixed with retreds of pop songs from the recent past. Does the world really need another rendition of Danny Boy or Irish sounding Moody Blues music? If you prefer green beer to Guinness or Disney's Epcot to a trip to Europe, the NEW "Celtic Thunder" may be to your liking. If you like your drink and your music to be authentic, go with the original. An excellent primer would be the compilation CD, "When New York Was Irish, songs & tunes by Terence Winch" that was released in 2007 and also is available on Amazon. It contains a first rate cross section of Celtic Thunder's music along with some additional pieces by some of the groups members recording under the name the Narrowbacks. You won't be sorry that you went with the real thing.
