Returning home from college one Christmas, young artist Thomas Kinkade (Jared Padalecki) is dismayed to learn that attempts to promote local tourism have failed and his mother (Marcia Gay Harden) is dangerously close to losing the family cottage to foreclosure. Inspired by his mentor, Glen (Peter O'Toole), a famous artist who lives next door, Thom accepts a job painting a mural of his small, idyllic hometown. With Glen's help, Thom not only discovers his calling as the Painter of Light(tm) but also helps the town rediscover the true spirit of Christmas in this nostalgic, humorous and heartwarming true story destined to become a holiday classic.

Customer Rating: Summary: A beautiful family holiday movie Comment: This movie was BEAUTIFUL and insprational!! I have never been a big fan of Thamas Kincade's painting, preferring more modern art, but - The acting is superb, and the story is a lovely triumph of a single mother who understood the gifts of her children and supported tham with everything she had. A few of Peter O'Tooles segments brought tears to my eyes, and Marsha Gaye Hardin's performances were excellent. Jared Padelecki is beautifully cast and performs his role with dexterity. The director, Michael Campus, has great vision and seems to feel the warmth and love in this story, and has been able to move that to the screen. I have purchased multiple copies of the film to add to my holiday baskets for friends and family. I do think everyone will enjoy! I must have missed the profanity spoken about by a few folks - I guess maybe it is the "God Damn" that is said by the wayward father in the church? Not a nice comment, for sure, but it did not affect my feelings of the movie at all. Great Job!! Customer Rating: Summary: Wish I could give it NO stars... Comment: I ordered the Christmas Cottage DVD and we watched it on Thanksgiving with the family. I am very disappointed and feel it should have been rated PG-13 as a lot of the content was embarrassing to watch with children. The nativity was mocked and made fun of, the young women with so much breast showing was deplorable and embarrassing to watch with the men in our family, in addition to the sexual innuendos, excessive cursing... I cannot believe that such a DVD was even made by Thomas Kinkade. My eyes have been opened as to what he is really like. I am not talking about him as a person, but for him to allow sexual innuendos, mockery of the real meaning of Christmas and excessive cursing was so unnecessary and ruined the nice movie. I am trying to get rid of it. I am going to warn every one of my Christian friends that this movie is not what it appears to be. True believers, beware!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Christmas Movie Comment: I just watched the movie with my brother and wife. It was a great movie and very proud of Jared, he did a wonderful job. Customer Rating: Summary: Heartwarming. Comment: Heartwarming...After reading one of the reviews here on Amazon, I was reluctant to buy this movie due to the mention of the profanity. I'm glad that I listened to my instincts and purchased it. I truly enjoyed the movie and thought it was very touching and inspiring. The profanity that was used was so minimal that you hardly recall it being used. The only problem that I found with the movie was the volume. I had to turn my volume all the way up and listen closely in order to hear. Other than that, I would recommend that you add this movie to your Christmas collection. Customer Rating: Summary: Yes it's a family movie for Pete's Sakes! Comment: Some weirdos are getting on here saying this is not a family movie due to vulgarity and sensuality. I don't think they saw the same movie I saw. There is more vulgarity and sensuality spending five minutes anywhere outside this movie...walking down a street, at school, tv shows or commercials. Please do yourself a favor and ignore those reviews. You'll be glad and thankful for it. The whole movie has to do with redemption, and God's love, and it has the guts to say so, in a way that I don't think would turn off most non-religious or religious people. This movie is a gem, the acting is excellent, and I am ordering a copy or two for gifts. If you are an aspiring artist, or know someone who is, this movie is a God-send.
